Route 1 – Big Porcupine, Head Lake Loop

Starting at Smoke Lake (Access Point #6) head south to the end of Smoke Lake, into Ragged Lake and then south into Big Porcupine Lake (1) and camp here for the first night. Day 2 head east through Bonnechere Lake, Phipps Lake and into Kirkwood Lake (2), where you spend the second night. Day 3 head north into Pardee Lake, Harness Lake and then into Head Lake (3), where you camp the final night. On the last day portage into Cache Lake, head west into Tanamakoon, Little Island and finally back into Smoke Lake. This is an easier 4-day trip and can be made even shorter by ending the last day at Cache Lake (Access point #8) and arranging for transportation back to the Portage Store. If you have 5 days, plan to take a layover day somewhere along the route.

Route 2 – Big Porcupine, Lake Louisa and Rock Lake Trip:

Starting at Smoke Lake (Access Point #6) head south to the end of Smoke Lake, into Ragged Lake and then south into Big Porcupine Lake (1) and camp here for the first night. Day 2 head east through Bonnechere Lake, Phipps Lake and into Kirkwood Lake (2), where you spend the second night. Day 3 you head east into Lawrence Lake and then south into Lake Louisa (3) where you camp for the final night. On the last day it’s a very long portage (2895 meters, thankfully downhill) into Rock Lake and access point #9. You would either have a car waiting or you would have booked a shuttle with us that would pick you up and bring you back to the Portage Store. Except for the long portage at the end, this is a moderately easy trip 4-day trip. Can be made into a 5-day trip by taking a layover day, perhaps on Louisa.

Route 3 – Big Porcupine, North Grace, Welcome and Rock Lake Trip:

Starting at Smoke Lake (Access Point #6) head south to the end of Smoke Lake, into Ragged Lake and then south into Big Porcupine Lake (1) and camp here for the first night. Day 2 you head south into Coon Lake and then over to McGarvey, Lemon Lake and finally into North Grace (2), where you camp for the second night. On day 3 it’s two long portages from North Grace to Lousia and then into Florence Lake. From here you head through Frank, Rence, Harry and into Welcome Lake (3), where you camp for the last night. On your last day it’s a long portage out to Pen Lake and then paddle north to Rock Lake and access point #9. You would either have a car waiting or you would have booked a shuttle with us that would pick you up and bring you back to the Portage Store. This is a harder 4-day trip, mainly because of the number of longer portages and can be made into a 5-day trip by taking a layover day along the way.
