We are proud, to offer a variety of rental canoes that can accommodate all Algonquin Park paddling needs.
Bookings are for multi-day backcountry rentals only
For single-day rentals, reservations are not required. We have plenty of canoes to honour single-day rentals. We’ll provide you with a map of Canoe Lake and point out some places of interest. Our staff is happy to give you a few quick pointers if your canoeing skills are a little rusty. For a more structured outing you may wish to join one of our day or half day guided canoe trips.
15FT Aluminum Canoe
Aluminum Canoes are steady, heavy and reliable. Designed in the 70s as a white-water canoe the aluminum construction can take some punishment. Despite its short frame, at only 15 feet long, it tracks well in the water. It is however, by far the heaviest canoe we have. The heavy weight of this canoe not only means it can be slow to paddle but it is also incredibly painful to carry on all but the very shortest portage trails. This canoe is ideal for weekend-warriors, going out for a day paddle or for backcountry trippers on a budget that have planned a trip with very few portages. Campers with a fair amount of equipment should consider using the 17ft, 2-seat version as it has a larger carrying capacity.
17FT Aluminum Canoe (3 seats)
Our 17ft 3-seat version of our Aluminum Canoe uses a full-gauge aluminum which makes it the heaviest canoe we have. Primarily used by travellers looking to paddle for a day or a half-day around The Portage Store it is capable of touring the backcountry despite its limitations. It is the heaviest canoe we have and without a contoured carrying yoke, it is not a desirable choice on portage trails. It is limited in the overall amount of gear it can carry, especially with the third passenger. This canoe is ideal for weekend-warriors, going out for a day paddle or for backcountry trippers on a budget that have planned a trip with very few portages.
15FT Standard Kevlar Canoe
Versatility and reliability are the key characteristics of our entry-point Kevlar canoe. The 15ft Standard Kevlar Canoe was first introduced to The Portage Store back in 1982 as our first Kevlar canoe. It is stable in the water and at only 15ft long it is nibble on the portage trail too. Light enough to be portaged without limitations, many campers will be able to portage this canoe while carrying a backpack. It has great primary and secondary stability, which makes it a great canoe for both tandem and solo paddlers. It is ideal for novice and intermediate paddlers that aren’t seeking a lighter canoe.
17FT Standard Kevlar Canoe (3 seats)
Versatility and reliability in a 3-seat canoe. Our entry point Kevlar 3-seat canoe can comfortably seat 3 paddlers. On the portage trail it can be shoulder carried with its contoured yolk while the two other occupants carry packs and gear. Though a wiser choice for backcountry camping than our Aluminum 17ft 3-seat canoe, it is also limited in overall volume capacity. Paddlers may want to choose our 18ft UltraLight Kevlar Canoe if they have to load a lot of gear. It is ideal for novice and intermediate paddlers camping in odd numbered groups, where gear can be distributed evenly to other canoes.
16FT Solo Canoe
Whether you’re looking to travel the backcountry on a solo trip or racing your friends to the portage, this canoe is the best way to travel solo. Our solo canoe’s narrow tumblehome hull design can be paddled with either a traditional canoe paddle or a kayak paddle. Its straight and long hull makes it exceptionally fast and able to handle big water even in windy conditions. Not only is it lighter than any of our tandem canoes, it comes equipped with a removable carrying yoke which makes it a breeze to carry over long portages. Its centre positioned seat ensured the canoe is balanced and allows for optimal performance with every paddle stroke.
16FT Expedition Carbon Kevlar Canoe
A workhorse Carbon-Kevlar canoe for serious backcountry camping. Our deep hull Expedition 16ft Kevlar canoe paddles best when loaded with backcountry camping gear. Its traditional Prospector shape makes it great for both meandering streams as well as big windy lakes. It is light enough to handle portages and is a heavy-hauler, with its enormous volume capacity. It is ideal for paddlers going on extended backcountry trips or campers who intend on bringing a lot of gear.
16FT UltraLight Kevlar Canoe
A canoe uncompromising in its approach to backcountry travel. Our lightest Kevlar canoe at 42lbs, is a dream to carry on portage trails and quick and nimble in the water. It is at home on both meandering creeks and on big windy lakes. It performs well no matter how light or heavily loaded. Ideal for paddlers looking for an incredibly light canoe on the portage that paddles great no mater what waterway they are navigating through.
17FT UltraLight Kevlar Canoe
This may be the ultimate backcountry tripping canoe. Only slightly heavier than the 16 foot UltraLight, this Quetico shaped hull is incredibly fast, stable and can easily track a straight line on big windy lakes. It rides high on waves and takes in very little water over the gunwales. Ideal for backcountry enthusiasts looking to get to their destination with true voyageur efficiency and style.
18FT UltraLight Kevlar Canoe (3 seats)
Ultimate backcountry tripping, in a 3-seat canoe. This is an unbelievably light and large 3-seat canoe that can accommodate more people and more gear. The space required to accommodate a 3rd paddler in this canoe does not come at the expense of storage space. This longer and larger version of our 17ft UltraLight tracks incredibly well and has a staggering 1300lbs of volume capacity. Ideal for groups of three, for families of four or for paddlers with a tonne of gear.
16FT ProLight Carbon Canoe
Algonquin Park’s lightest Prospector canoe; period. The portage trail has finally met its match! At only 33lbs, it is impossible not to notice how effortless it is to carry this canoe. Paddlers can easily portage this canoe while carrying a pack of their choosing, significantly reducing the amount of time it takes to get through a portage. Its slightly wider shape in the center makes it stable and its lower profile allows it to avoid wind resistance. Every aspect of this canoe is constructed to keep its weight down without interfering with the paddling experience. Ideal for anyone looking for a premium canoe that paddles incredibly well in the water while providing the lightest possible option on portages.
